Interior Smart used their full range of expertise in designing and equipping the interior of the flagship £12m Pool Innovation Centre (PIC). A job well done for the centre’s operator, the University of Plymouth, has lead to many new clients for Interior Smart as start up and young business arrive at PIC.

Project – Interior Smart was appointed through a competitive tender to design and equip the reception and shared use facilities at the Pool Innovation Centre. The first of its kind in Cornwall, Pool Innovation Centre is a purpose-built three storey building designed to provide state of the art conference facilities and meeting rooms and flexible office accommodation. It also provides high spec IT capabilities to meet the current and future needs of business innovators and entrepreneurs in the 21st century.

Planning – equipping this prestigious new office building needed careful planning and consultation. Interior Smart had to anticipate the different needs of up to 50 resident business clients and the wider business community that will use PIC. Interior Smart had a number of planning challenges. Firstly they had to creatively design a consistent yet individual theme for each of ten conference and meeting rooms. Interior Smart also had to create a reception area that had an immediate wow factor and was extremely serviceable given the number of clients at PIC. Finally Interior Smart were responsible for the extra details that makes PIC so popular with start up and growing businesses, such as the break out areas on each floor and the signing in/out board and pigeon hole facilities at reception to help demonstrate real care and attention given by the PIC staff.

Delivery - all aspects of Interior Smart’s work were completed on time to ensure the Pool Innovation Centre looked magnificent for its royal opening by HRH Duke of Gloucester. The professional environment Interior Smart has helped to create will help fledgling businesses grow and prosper.
